The Capital Region Scandinavian Society (CARESS) represents people from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, where we celebrate and share our cultural heritage and aspects of our history. We intend to organize dinners and gather informally to celebrate our Scandinavian heritage. If there is enough interest, we also could organize events or trips such as visiting the Nordic Center in Manhattan.
Participants are native-born Scandinavians or persons of Scandinavian lineage. Each country, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, brings a unique component to our collective Nordic identity.
Membership is free, and we are of a loosely-knit group interested in sharing and preserving our Scandinavian heritage. If you are interested in exploring more about Scandinavian culture or participating in one of our events, please come and join us. You will be most welcome.
The Odal Rune. Ultimately stemming from Proto-Germanic *othalan and representing the phoneme /o/. The rune has connotations including "ancestral"“heredity” “estate”, “home” and “nobility”.
